Our mission
At The Gleaners, we believe there’s enough food for everyone—we just need to get it where it’s needed. For 38 years, we’ve rescued, repurposed, and redistributed surplus food to help eliminate hunger in Mississippi. Even spoiled food is turned into compost to grow more.

Gleaners of Mississippi rescues surplus food from retailers, grocers, caterers, and hospitals that would otherwise go to waste. When food can’t be distributed as-is, it’s repurposed through processing or alternative uses to ensure nothing valuable is lost. From there, nutritious food is redistributed to shelters, churches, and community partners, helping fight hunger while reducing food waste across Mississippi.

“Gleaners is an important source of food for Stewpot,” says Rev. Jill Buckley, Executive Director of Stewpot Community Services. “We use food collected by Gleaners to supplement our lunch menu, to offer to shoppers in our Food Pantry, and to serve at our shelters. Without Gleaners, our ability to serve the community would be diminished.
